Sequential REV2 | Revelations Patch Bank

video upload by MIDERA

"I had access to the Sequential REV2 for 1 month and decided to make a patch bank with it. In 2019 I had a REV2 desktop and made some patches that I really liked, so I decided to finish the bank of patches and sell them. Please visit here for details on how to purchase these patches: https://www.midera-artist.com/synthes...

I chose to not use any external effects for these patches. Everything you hear can be achieved using the REV2 by itself. These patches will install on Bank 1 of your REV2. I do not think it is backwards compatible with the Prophet 08 unfortunately.

I wrote my review of the REV2 here as well:

SOMA Pulsar-23 + Meng Qi Wing Pinger // Synthetic Forest

video upload by Dexba

"I can feel it: it's the sensation of moving in the right direction with my setup and my musical scope.
I'm no producer, I think you already grasped that from my channel's general vibe, so what I really like to do is as little planning as possible and just follow the stream, the dialogue between me and the instruments.
And this is like... the goal! I can finally see the end of the tunnel, now I only have to work on the relationship with my gear, learn, practice, and improve.
This idea was born after stumbling upon some recordings of birds in a song from Pere Ubu, and I was pretty sure they were doable with a synthesizer too!
The Pulsar-23 by SOMA was the closest thing to a modular I had, so I went for that, but it wasn't without challenges, since there is only one LFO and the polarity/wave shape has no modulation control, so a simple task like alternating rhythmically up and down pitch synchronized with the gates got way more challenging than it sounds :) Wing Pinger is my new crush, no need to hide it, and even though (surprisingly enough) it doesn't pair well with the Hologram Microcosm, I really wanted to give more ambiance, a more washed feeling to the lonely upper filter playing. I think you'll see this setup again and again, so I hope you enjoy ✨"

Recorded in 2013,Tides is a glimpse into the early phase of what has become Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith’s signature approach to electronic music. Composed and played on a Buchla Music Easel––the modular synthesizer that gives Smith’s music its organic feel––this collection of instrumentals is at once uplifting, transportive and meditational. It comes as no surprise that it was commissioned by Smith's mother to accompany her yoga practice.

Tides pulsates and swells like the ocean itself. Field recordings of wind chimes and forest sounds are interspersed throughout much of the album, accentuating the pastoral aspirations of their electronic counterparts. The chirp of a bird might be confused for the elongated intervals of a muted siren, a steam valve opening and closing for the sound of the surf, or a drone for a live organ. The actuality is elusive and secondary to the alchemy at work. Natural and synthetic components become indistinguishable from one another and cohere seamlessly into a unified paean to bliss. Though the ambient nature of these recordings is inextricable, it is belied by an undercurrent of heart-like beats that hint at the visceral force of Smith’s current work.

Wersi Pianostar T2000, Vintage Analog Synthesizer

Published on Dec 30, 2015 Hard00 Fernandez

"A short Demo of the Wersi Pianostar T2000. It has several timbres, oscillator detune, a sweet sounding VCF-section wich is quite similar to the Wersistar.

The Unit is 4 sale on ebay. (Pickup near Frankfurt/Main)"

Details in German followed by Googlish below. Note this is the first Pianostar T2000 demo on MATRIXSYNTH. The Pianostar was only briefly mentioned in two previous posts. One on Peter Forest's A-Z of Analogue Synthsizers here, and one on a brochure for the Wersi Condor DX100 here.

"Das Wersi Pianostar aus den 70ern sieht nicht nur unverschämt gut aus, fast wie ein Rhodes eben, sonder unter der Haube verbirgt sich eine voll analoge Klangerzeugung á la Wersistar. Das gute Stück einfach als E-Piano zu bezeichnen wird ihm also absolut nicht gerecht.

Happy New Year! The Year in Synths 2013

Happy New Year Everyone!

What a busy year it has been in the world of synths.

This is going to be one doozy of a post, so bear with me. This post is a review of the year in synths for 2013. We begin with Tributes to Those We Lost This Year, followed by New Manufacturers & Makers, Older Manufacturers Added to the Site, New Gear Announcements, Top 10 Posts by Traffic,  My Standout Posts for the Year, and finally This Years' Synth Events. I did my best to keep things as short and concise as possible.

Let's begin with the hardest part of the post.

Tributes to Those We Lost This Year

RIP Bernard Parmegiani - Electronic & Acoustic Composer
Lou Reed RIP
RIP Dick Raaymakers aka Kid Baltan
RIP George Duke - DreamWeaver
RIP Ralph Dyck, Sept 28, 1941 – May 20, 2013
RIP Ray Manzarek

All missed and never to be forgotten. Take a moment to remember them.

New Manufacturers & Makers

Starting last January, I decided to keep a running list of every new manufacturer and maker introduced to the site during the year.  This is something I haven't done before and I thought it would be interesting to see how many there were in the year.   It's easy to focus on the big synth announcements throughout the year, but what about all the new makers and brands? I shouln't have to go considerably into the significance of new designers on the scene, so I'll just say two things regarding them.  One, the number of new makers is a direct reflection on the interest in our scene, and two, these are the creators of new gear which directly translate into new designs not previously available to us.  Think about that for a moment.  These are makers and designs that did not exist before.  They are part of our synth history.  So what is the total count of new synth designers for the year? A whopping 113. Think about that a bit. One hundred and thirteen new synth designers and brands this year alone.

Here they are (note a handful date back to 2012, but 2013 marked their momentum and availability):

Anyone know what he's playing?
"This was video-taped MANY years ago. I was performing along to one of the dance pieces on my tropical dance album - "Bora Bora 2000". Great fun! Enjoy! Iasos website = iasos..."
